The technology on this ship is like nothing that Mary has ever seen before. Wide screens that play films like at the cinema. Watches with faces that glow and can send messages to people. She's starting to wonder if she's somehow stepped into a sci-fi novel. Admittedly, she was skeptical about winning a free cruise, but who could really turn down free? Mary saw it as a nice getaway from her family and stress back home.
While she much rather would have preferred her own clothing, she's glad that the tailor has created something beautiful and familiar for her. It's a loose-fitting ball gown in the similar style to what was popular back home, black with tiny beads covering the important areas and flesh-toned along her back, shoulders and lower legs. It's perfect and Mary is very pleased with it.
She's certainly no stranger to fancy dinners. While none of Mary's family is here, it doesn't bother her overly much to sit with people she does not know. She's outgoing and enjoys socializing. With a martini in her hand, Mary takes a seat at a table with an empty space and smiles at the person next to her.
"Hello," she says with a polite nod.
II. Defying Gravity/Captain's Broadcast
It's a harsh wake up call for Mary when she awakens to realize that she is floating. Mary thought she had been dreaming it, but it's very obvious that she's conscious now. She screams and it sounds like she's underwater, the muffled reverberations of it come back to her on a delay.
She floats as best she can to the hallway, where she finds that others are also gathered, looking as baffled as she is. Mary wraps her robe more tightly around her as she listens to the captain's broadcast.
When he finishes speaking, she glances at the person next to her, her face screwed up in confusion.
"I'm sorry... did I just hear him correctly?" Honestly, she hadn't understood most of that scientific mumbo jumbo, but the year 1862 was heard loud and clear. "How exactly are we going to go to 1862?"
As the ship goes into warp, Mary quickly grabs onto the nearest sconce lamp on the wall next to her, trying to brace herself for impact.
