TDM #1
ARRIVAL TDM Exploration |
You're barely given any time to tell anyone about the lottery you've just won or say any goodbyes before it's 1800 hours and the transport pod is waiting there for you to take you to the SS Hygge. True to the message you received, once you enter the transport pod you start to feel very drowsy very rapidly, and you don't come to again until you feel the transport pod bump against one of many landing docks and hear it clip in. The transport pod opens once the airtight seal has molded itself around its door, and lights guide you down a corridor to what looks like a hotel lobby, complete with friendly receptionists waiting behind a counter to greet you. Upon giving your name you will be given a room key and informed that a bottle of champagne (soft drink/juice for minors) is waiting for you in your room. In your room you will find a communications device that you are to strap onto your wrist (or any other appropriate limb) and keep with you at all times. The Captain can communicate with you through the device, and it allows you to keep track of the ship time. While you are checking in, you will be asked to make an appointment with a tailor tonight, who will be by your room to take your measurements so that you can be suitably clothed for the welcome dinner tomorrow, and for any other adventures the ship goes on. When you get to your room, you'll find it's a fairly small cabin with an ensuite bathroom. There's a TV mounted on the wall at the foot of a double bed. On top of the bedside drawer is the smartwatch-resembling comms device that the receptionist was talking about. Its charger is in the drawer. While there are no windows, there is a screen that cycles through various scenery. The nature scenery might have occasional birdsong or quiet sounds of a distant waterfall. The galactic one is magnificent but silent. You can program what's displayed from your comms device. From your comms device you can also request for some white noise to help you sleep, or adjust the room's temperature. As soon as you put it on, you will feel a little prick in your wrist/appendage as it releases nanites into your body. This allows you to communicate with other passengers speaking different languages on board the ship, and it also allows the Captain to keep track of you in case you get lost. It remembers all your preferences, and it functions like a smartwatch, allowing you to contact other passengers as well as Reception, take photos, record videos and do video calls. There is a wardrobe next to the TV that currently only holds a bathrobe and some sleepwear that's of a slightly larger fit for you, to make it more comfortable to sleep in. Don't worry - there'll be more clothes to go into the wardrobe tomorrow when the tailor is ready. Though there is a map of the ship loaded into your comms device, you are left to explore its facilities on your own. Or why not make a friend with another solo arrival and explore together? You may not want to jump into the pool until the tailor has provided you with fitting swimming attire, but maybe a massage at the Golden Palm might interest you after that cramped ride in the transport pod? The Great Escape offers a great many virtual reality experiences that you can enjoy. And of course, if you're hungry, why not hit up some of the restaurants? All facilities are within walking distance of each other, on the main deck at the top floor. You don't have to go straight to your room if you're not tired. |
WELCOME DINNER TDM Mingle |
Hopefully you had a well-rested first night on board the Hygge. Maybe you didn't - maybe you were partying all night. Or maybe you've made a new friend and never quite managed to make it back to your own room. Either way, the tailor will come by your room in the early afternoon to drop off three boxes of clothes tailor-made to suit your body and style. The small box contains some plain underwear and activewear/swimwear for use in the ship's gym/pool respectively. There is also a hand towel with your name embroidered on it, for use at the gym or anywhere else where towels might get mixed up. The large box contains three everyday outfits for your character to wear. You only arrived with the clothes on your back after all - you'll need something to change into. Finally, the medium box contains formal attire for tonight's welcome dinner, held at Umami from 1900 hours ship time. You haven't forgotten about the welcome dinner that Reception mentioned yesterday, have you? It might be awkward to show up late. It is not expected that all the ship's passengers will be in one restaurant at the same time, so unfortunately there aren't enough tables for all solo guests to sit at their own table. If you arrive late you may need to join someone else who's already seated. Come on, it wouldn't kill you to make conversation with your dinner partner for the night, would it? If you're feeling ridiculous in your cocktail dress or stuffy three piece suit, who's to say your dinner partner can't commiserate? Maybe you're from the same place, or share a few same interests. The rest of the dinner will go a lot more smoothly if you happen to get along with your dinner companion(s). After the lavish twelve course dinner, there will be a song and dance performance by some of the ship's crew. The DJ will take over from 2200 hours ship time and play music that is suspiciously suitable to dance to. How about topping the night off with a few fancy moves or a slow dance on the floor? |
DEFYING GRAVITY TDM Event |
It's the fourth night you are spending on board the ship. The current ship time is 0517. Many guests are asleep. Some are still partying it up at Starlight, some are hunched over the jackpot machines. Some people are still convincing themselves they don't have a drinking problem, chins in their palms as they turn stirrers in lazy circles in their almost-empty tumblers. Some might be in the library cafe in the middle of a good book. It happens without warning. One moment you're doing whatever it is you're doing. The next, there's a barely noticeable rumble, and then you're floating. You and everyone else around you and everything else as far as your eyes can see that isn't bolted down to the ship. Sound travels slowly in space. The screaming and the sound of things breaking - they come moments after the weightlessness pushes you away from the ground. Or maybe that's just you, in the thick of the confusion, trying to figure out what's happening and trying to make sense of the chaos that's starting to unfold in front of your eyes. Staff that are clearly distressed attempt to swim-float around and tell passengers to remain calm. Some staff have big, clunky, magnetised boots that allow them to walk along the ship's floor, but they seem to be engineering personnel rushing off somewhere and they're not stopping for hospitality staff or guests. If you are loitering near the lobby where you had first arrived, Hygge staff may ask you to work as quickly as you can launching the transport pods you arrived in back off the ship. If you are in your room and try to make your way to the front door, you will find it is unlocked, and you will notice a lot of confused heads poking out into the corridor. Hopefully you weren't in the pool, because that's now a nebulous floating blob of water that is threatening to suffocate you. Nobody seems to have any accurate information about what the hell's going on and the flurry of activity continues for a good forty minutes, maybe more, before a crisp, clear voice can be heard booming throughout the ship. |
CAPTAIN'S BROADCAST June Event Sneak Preview |
“Good morning, esteemed guests. This is your Captain speaking. At this time I ask you all to please remain calm, hold on to a fixed part of the ship, and follow the instructions of all crew. At approximately 0442 hours ship time, a series of supernovae approximately 312,659 light years away occurred in rapid succession and triggered a cataclysmic chain reaction across the universe. We have lost communications with all nearby star systems. The devastating effects on individual galaxies is currently not known. As a direct result of this chain reaction, the ship was hit by large debris from a nearby implosion and the hull was breached. Several fuel cells have been irreversibly damaged in the breach and a fire has broken out on the lower deck due to leaking oxygen stores, rendering several cabins uninhabitable. In addition, the gravity drive has experienced a catastrophic failure. This resulted in water from the pool flooding the engine room, causing the engine to malfunction and compromising the navigational system. Finally, several critical components of the engine have been jettisoned due to conflicting emergency protocols and these have been scattered throughout time and space. The transport pods have been deployed on their previous command loop in an effort to locate any other survivors and bring them on board. However, there will be insufficient fuel and oxygen for the ship to wait here for the transport pods to return. We must restore the oxygen supply and repair the engine before we can bring additional passengers on board. Our first course of action is to retrieve the energy crystal which will restore full operational power back to the engine. We have traced its unique energy signature to the American frontier, in the year 1862. Our data suggests that the crystal is on board a locomotive transport. Despite the abrupt alteration in the timeline, word has already spread of a valuable jewel being transported across the country. We must board a moving train to retrieve the crystal and bring it back to the ship before it is hijacked by bandits. We have redirected all remaining backup power to the ship’s engine. In doing so we will have enough fuel to initiate one perfectly executed jump sequence to intercept the train. The gravity drive cannot be brought back online if we are to make this jump, so please, hold on tight. I will be initiating the jump sequence through hyperspace into the Wild West in 3… 2… 1.” |

[ So if they can't be from the same Earth, there can only be one explanation.
Jim grins and laughs at Peter's comment, shaking his head. ]
Sense of humor, too. Who'd have thought?
[ If they weren't in this situation, he'd probably make some joke about Peter being the whole package. Another time, maybe. ]
no subject
No, I am not lying. I guess the universe is more interesting than I first thought.
[ He discovers far more quickly that he likes the sound of Jim's laugh. The man's friendly and the kind of people Peter enjoys knowing a bit better. ]
Why, thanks. I like to surprise. Maybe once this crisis is over we can have a normal talk with our feet on the ground.
no subject
[ That's Jim's take anyway, and no one is ever gonna change his mind. God knows Bones has tried multiple times. ]
Yeah? Sounds like fun. I'll hold you to that.
[ And it's a good way to make himself stay optimistic, thinking that whatever happens, this whole mess will be over and things will settle down. ]
no subject
[ Peter stops and hovers in the air when they reach the end of a long corridor with 2 doors to choose from. He's still holding Jim so there's no risk fo the man falling even if they're not flying forward. ]
I don't remember which way goes to the engineering room. I think there's a map in the device attached to our wrist?
no subject
He clings a little tighter as Peter stops, then wiggles around a little so he can reach for his device, searching briefly. ]
Left. [ He has a feeling they'll find their way barred eventually, but so far so good. ]
no subject
Aren't you a doll. [ He smiles at Jim for the help and squeezes his waist lightly before going left. True enough, the can see the access to engineering section room because there's a lot of distressed staff moving around really fast. This time, when Peter stops, is to lower them both of them to the ground. ]
Okay, we better make ourselves useful. Say, would you be up for that drink once things calm down? And meet me...there's a bar here I am sure. If we are lucky it will still be in one piece later.
no subject
Sounds like fun. [ He smiles at Peter and nods. ] I'll come find you if you don't get in touch first. But do make sure to stay in one piece until then, too.
no subject
Things get under control after a few hours. Not everything is fixed and it won't be for a long time but they're out of immediate danger. Is good enough for Peter, who's now waiting at the bar for Jim to show up while nursing a drink. ]
no subject
So how'd that jump work for you?
no subject
I had worse but I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the idea that we're headed towards the Wild West. You okay? [ By the looks of it, things went better for Peter than Jim. Maybe it was because Peter was used to being tossed around and almost dying on a daily basis. ]
no subject
[ He gestures to Peter's glass. ] I'll have whatever you're having. Wanna find us a table, maybe?
no subject
[ None of the Guardians have medical training but they have gotten hurt so many times in the past that all of them can perform some proper first aid whilst blindfolded. ]
Sure thing. What about that booth by out left? The upholstered seats look extra comfy.
[ Peter turns to the waiter and orders a second drink for his new friend. He gotta give it to the staff here, they're pretty quick. Or maybe they want to compensate for the previous disaster with the ship giving them extra quality service. Once the drink is ready, he handles it to Jim, the liquid is a rich, bright blue with a red cherry inside. ]
This is a Blue Arrow, it was the favorite drink of an old friend of mine. I think he liked it for the name alone. [ Peter's smile turns a bit sadder but this time the memory of Yondu that comes to mind is a pleasant one. ] It's pretty strong, it combines gin, triple sec, Blue Curaçao, and lime juice. or what passes for lime juice by this side of the galaxy.
no subject
[ Even if he does spend most of that time grousing and complaining, Bones is exceptionally good when under pressure.
Nodding, he accepts his drink and follows Peter to the booth, making himself comfortable on one of the seats. ]
Impressed they have access to all those liquors, too. [ He huffs, plucking the cherry out and setting it down on a plate on the table, then taking a slow sip. ] Mm. Strong. But good.
no subject
[ Peter knows how is like to have a perpetually grumpy companion that is so good at their job they're almost scary. The main difference is that Bone is as furry as Rocket, or so short.
Once they seat, Peter posture relaxes fully. It's been a long, complicated day, he's still worried about his teammates and what might be happening in Titan and Earth but there¡'s nothing he can do while stuck on a ship. ]
Glad you like it. And yes, this ship has everything...do you think that the mysterious Nigerian princess is even real?
no subject
[ Jim imagines he would, but if they met during the crisis it might've skipped his mind. ]
Probably not. I've heard it from someone that it was a common con back on Earth during the 20th century or something. Something about Nigerian princes and getting access to bank accounts or... something of the kind.
[ Jim purses his lips and shrugs, looking as confused as he feels. ] I didn't really get it, honestly.
no subject
[ Peter gestures around them with the hand holding his glass. Pretty much no one could have predicted things to turn out like this even if Peter had been expecting something bad to happen. ]
As far as a con goes, that one's pretty lame. I'd know. [ Peter was a thief and there are some skills you can't just unlearn. In fact, he is still a thief, he just put his abilities to better use, like saving the Galaxy if possible. He leans in slightly, smiling back at the blond man. ]
Neither do I but I'm used to accepting things as they happen. So let's enjoy our trip before something else tries to kill us.
no subject
Trust me, he's always looking for a break from work. Or so he says, anyway.
[ Bones is too much of a workaholic to really be able to let it go completely, though. And considering how things are here, he doubts there'll be a chance for that anytime soon. ]
It did sound pretty terrible. Not sure why anyone would fall for it, but... well, I came on this trip willingly, so maybe I shouldn't talk much.
[ This could be a con too, and he totally fell for it, hook, line, and sinker. He glances at Peter, studying him for a moment. ]
Usually I'd agree, but I'm not sure our current situation lends itself well to finding enjoyment. But-- sure, I'll bite. What would you do for fun, right now?
no subject
Eh, don't be so hard on yourself. I walked in trying to get help too, so I only have myself to blame. [ Peter makes a face at the memory, reminding himself of how stupid he had been. ] There were desperate circumstances going on in my world but I should have been more careful. I passed out in the pod after a few seconds, it was weird.
[ Jim's right that the situation isn't conducive to fun but Peter has been in far worse places. He always tries to move forward or at least distract himself from the misery going on around him. ]
I'm not sure, I didn't have any plans when I came here beyond 'take advantage of the free bar'. But I like to listen to music and dance.
no subject
[ He smiles warmly, and with no small amount of fondness to it. ]
Well... when you're trying to help, I hardly think that counts as stupid, regardless of what you do or what situation you find yourself in.
[ He perks up visibly as the mention of music and dancing, shifting on his seat. ] Oh, me too. What sort of music do you like?
no subject
The smile wavers slightly after Jim's reassurance. The man means well but Peter fucked up too much, might have doomed half the universe, and is still processing it. So he's going to do the mature thing, squash his feelings deep down for the time being until one day they burst out and kill him ]
Thanks, Jim. [ He needed to hear that, even if Peter doesn't believe himself anything less than a moron. People have sure told him that enough times to sink in. Thankfully, the music is a better topic of conversation. ]
I actually have my zune with me. [ He pulls out the small device from the inside pocket of his jacket. ] I don't go anywhere without it. Mostly I grew up with music from the 80's Blue Swede, David Bowie, Queen, The Raspberries, Sam, Sam Cooke...what's do you like? Peter's smile turned into a grin. Fast and energetic or slow and sweet?
no subject
A zune? [ He peers over when Peter pulls out the device, eyes alight. ] Oh, wow, that's ancient. But really cool. It's amazing.
[ His fingers fidget a little, clearly eager to touch it, but he refrains from asking for now. ] Hm, a bit of both. I really like late 20th and early 21st music, so all those names you mentioned and then some.
no subject
Yeah it's...[ Peter purses his lips in what some people might call a pout. not him, because he says he doesn't pout. Pouts are for kids when they're frustrated and he's a grown ass man. But you know, some people might think he's doing that out of protectiveness for his music player. ] It's not that old.
[ The fidgeting doesn't go unnoticed and he slides the zune towards Jim after a second. Peter doesn't mind sharing, since the other man is clearly interested, but he will want it back. ] It was a posthumous present. [ He says in a softer voice, meaning he wants jim to be careful with it. ]
We can listen to some music, if you want to.
no subject
Maybe not to you, but I'm from the 23rd century. So it is kind of an antique, to me.
[ He doesn't mean it in a bad way at all, he loves antiques. Which is likely obvious in the way he takes the player in his hands with great care, nodding at Peter's words. ] Don't worry, I won't break it.
[ He does fiddle with the controls for a while, careful and curious, until he figures out how it works. ]
I'd like that. [ He smiles, tilting the player towards Peter. ] You pick.
no subject
Wow, I didn't know you were from so far into the future. How are things there? Have we reached universal peace? Are heelies in fashion again? Please say yes.
[ There's a smile growing on Peter's lips and it's hard to tell if he's serious or not about the shoes. He might be. ] Thanks, it means a lot to me. My adoptive dad got it for me.
[ Taking the Zune back, Peter hums softly and eventually selects a song. He puts on one of the earphones with his right hand and handles the other to Jim. ]
Are you a fan of David Bowie? [ Because their situation calls for the Starman song, so that's what Peter chose to play. ]
no subject
[ And that in itself counts for a great deal, Jim thinks. He looks up, brow furrowed as he hands the Zune over. ] What's heelies?
[ So there, Peter, that's your answer. Nope, they are not. ]
Very much, yes. [ He beams, smile wider when the song starts playing. ] Perfect choice, by the way.
