TDM #1

ARRIVAL
TDM Exploration

You're barely given any time to tell anyone about the lottery you've just won or say any goodbyes before it's 1800 hours and the transport pod is waiting there for you to take you to the SS Hygge. True to the message you received, once you enter the transport pod you start to feel very drowsy very rapidly, and you don't come to again until you feel the transport pod bump against one of many landing docks and hear it clip in.

The transport pod opens once the airtight seal has molded itself around its door, and lights guide you down a corridor to what looks like a hotel lobby, complete with friendly receptionists waiting behind a counter to greet you. Upon giving your name you will be given a room key and informed that a bottle of champagne (soft drink/juice for minors) is waiting for you in your room. In your room you will find a communications device that you are to strap onto your wrist (or any other appropriate limb) and keep with you at all times. The Captain can communicate with you through the device, and it allows you to keep track of the ship time. While you are checking in, you will be asked to make an appointment with a tailor tonight, who will be by your room to take your measurements so that you can be suitably clothed for the welcome dinner tomorrow, and for any other adventures the ship goes on.

When you get to your room, you'll find it's a fairly small cabin with an ensuite bathroom. There's a TV mounted on the wall at the foot of a double bed. On top of the bedside drawer is the smartwatch-resembling comms device that the receptionist was talking about. Its charger is in the drawer. While there are no windows, there is a screen that cycles through various scenery. The nature scenery might have occasional birdsong or quiet sounds of a distant waterfall. The galactic one is magnificent but silent. You can program what's displayed from your comms device. From your comms device you can also request for some white noise to help you sleep, or adjust the room's temperature. As soon as you put it on, you will feel a little prick in your wrist/appendage as it releases nanites into your body. This allows you to communicate with other passengers speaking different languages on board the ship, and it also allows the Captain to keep track of you in case you get lost. It remembers all your preferences, and it functions like a smartwatch, allowing you to contact other passengers as well as Reception, take photos, record videos and do video calls.

There is a wardrobe next to the TV that currently only holds a bathrobe and some sleepwear that's of a slightly larger fit for you, to make it more comfortable to sleep in. Don't worry - there'll be more clothes to go into the wardrobe tomorrow when the tailor is ready.

Though there is a map of the ship loaded into your comms device, you are left to explore its facilities on your own. Or why not make a friend with another solo arrival and explore together? You may not want to jump into the pool until the tailor has provided you with fitting swimming attire, but maybe a massage at the Golden Palm might interest you after that cramped ride in the transport pod? The Great Escape offers a great many virtual reality experiences that you can enjoy. And of course, if you're hungry, why not hit up some of the restaurants? All facilities are within walking distance of each other, on the main deck at the top floor. You don't have to go straight to your room if you're not tired.

WELCOME DINNER
TDM Mingle

Hopefully you had a well-rested first night on board the Hygge. Maybe you didn't - maybe you were partying all night. Or maybe you've made a new friend and never quite managed to make it back to your own room. Either way, the tailor will come by your room in the early afternoon to drop off three boxes of clothes tailor-made to suit your body and style.

The small box contains some plain underwear and activewear/swimwear for use in the ship's gym/pool respectively. There is also a hand towel with your name embroidered on it, for use at the gym or anywhere else where towels might get mixed up. The large box contains three everyday outfits for your character to wear. You only arrived with the clothes on your back after all - you'll need something to change into. Finally, the medium box contains formal attire for tonight's welcome dinner, held at Umami from 1900 hours ship time.

You haven't forgotten about the welcome dinner that Reception mentioned yesterday, have you? It might be awkward to show up late.

It is not expected that all the ship's passengers will be in one restaurant at the same time, so unfortunately there aren't enough tables for all solo guests to sit at their own table. If you arrive late you may need to join someone else who's already seated. Come on, it wouldn't kill you to make conversation with your dinner partner for the night, would it? If you're feeling ridiculous in your cocktail dress or stuffy three piece suit, who's to say your dinner partner can't commiserate? Maybe you're from the same place, or share a few same interests. The rest of the dinner will go a lot more smoothly if you happen to get along with your dinner companion(s).

After the lavish twelve course dinner, there will be a song and dance performance by some of the ship's crew. The DJ will take over from 2200 hours ship time and play music that is suspiciously suitable to dance to. How about topping the night off with a few fancy moves or a slow dance on the floor?

DEFYING GRAVITY
TDM Event

It's the fourth night you are spending on board the ship. The current ship time is 0517. Many guests are asleep. Some are still partying it up at Starlight, some are hunched over the jackpot machines. Some people are still convincing themselves they don't have a drinking problem, chins in their palms as they turn stirrers in lazy circles in their almost-empty tumblers. Some might be in the library cafe in the middle of a good book.

It happens without warning. One moment you're doing whatever it is you're doing. The next, there's a barely noticeable rumble, and then you're floating. You and everyone else around you and everything else as far as your eyes can see that isn't bolted down to the ship.

Sound travels slowly in space. The screaming and the sound of things breaking - they come moments after the weightlessness pushes you away from the ground. Or maybe that's just you, in the thick of the confusion, trying to figure out what's happening and trying to make sense of the chaos that's starting to unfold in front of your eyes.

Staff that are clearly distressed attempt to swim-float around and tell passengers to remain calm. Some staff have big, clunky, magnetised boots that allow them to walk along the ship's floor, but they seem to be engineering personnel rushing off somewhere and they're not stopping for hospitality staff or guests.

If you are loitering near the lobby where you had first arrived, Hygge staff may ask you to work as quickly as you can launching the transport pods you arrived in back off the ship. If you are in your room and try to make your way to the front door, you will find it is unlocked, and you will notice a lot of confused heads poking out into the corridor. Hopefully you weren't in the pool, because that's now a nebulous floating blob of water that is threatening to suffocate you.

Nobody seems to have any accurate information about what the hell's going on and the flurry of activity continues for a good forty minutes, maybe more, before a crisp, clear voice can be heard booming throughout the ship.

CAPTAIN'S BROADCAST
June Event Sneak Preview

“Good morning, esteemed guests. This is your Captain speaking. At this time I ask you all to please remain calm, hold on to a fixed part of the ship, and follow the instructions of all crew.

At approximately 0442 hours ship time, a series of supernovae approximately 312,659 light years away occurred in rapid succession and triggered a cataclysmic chain reaction across the universe. We have lost communications with all nearby star systems. The devastating effects on individual galaxies is currently not known.

As a direct result of this chain reaction, the ship was hit by large debris from a nearby implosion and the hull was breached. Several fuel cells have been irreversibly damaged in the breach and a fire has broken out on the lower deck due to leaking oxygen stores, rendering several cabins uninhabitable. In addition, the gravity drive has experienced a catastrophic failure. This resulted in water from the pool flooding the engine room, causing the engine to malfunction and compromising the navigational system. Finally, several critical components of the engine have been jettisoned due to conflicting emergency protocols and these have been scattered throughout time and space.

The transport pods have been deployed on their previous command loop in an effort to locate any other survivors and bring them on board. However, there will be insufficient fuel and oxygen for the ship to wait here for the transport pods to return. We must restore the oxygen supply and repair the engine before we can bring additional passengers on board.

Our first course of action is to retrieve the energy crystal which will restore full operational power back to the engine. We have traced its unique energy signature to the American frontier, in the year 1862. Our data suggests that the crystal is on board a locomotive transport. Despite the abrupt alteration in the timeline, word has already spread of a valuable jewel being transported across the country. We must board a moving train to retrieve the crystal and bring it back to the ship before it is hijacked by bandits.

We have redirected all remaining backup power to the ship’s engine. In doing so we will have enough fuel to initiate one perfectly executed jump sequence to intercept the train. The gravity drive cannot be brought back online if we are to make this jump, so please, hold on tight. I will be initiating the jump sequence through hyperspace into the Wild West in 3… 2… 1.”

Notes
Final points
  • Reserves are now open and will close on 7 May midnight GMT. Apps will open when reserves close. Calendar here.
  • TDM can be considered game canon if you so choose. This is up to you and your RP partner(s).
  • Due to the fire on the lower deck, the cabin described in the Arrival section is not going to be the room your character will end up staying in in the long run. If you decide to apply and are accepted, your character will be given a room assignment in a two bedroom cabin to share with another character. This is why the cabin description differs from the Accommodation page.
  • As some people will have observed, the facilities page has been updated to reflect the closure of the pool until further notice. The status of the venues will be updated as things happen on board the ship. You are always welcome to backdate visits to currently closed venues!
  • To nobody's big surprise, the first worldhop destination in June will be the Wild West. While the train heist will be the main Event Action, like the TDM categories, there will be Event Exploration and Event Mingle options as well. More information will be posted in the Event Announcement on the 25th of May.
  • The next mod-posted event post will be in the Wild West setting. There will never be a mod-posted event post on board the ship separate from the TDM as all shipbound months are TDM/app months. If you'd like to play out gravity-defying stunts, roommate CR after you have successfully apped in, or anything that would have occurred after the Captain's broadcast, feel free to do so within the TDM or create your own threads in [community profile] hyggeic.

I. Welcome Dinner
After twelve courses of food, Bones is rightly stuffed. He'd had a bad feeling about going on this cruise, but Jim had convinced him that he ought to go. He'd won something, after all. How often did that happen? Besides, with the Enterprise out of commission for repairs at Yorktown, there really wasn't much for a CMO to do.

After checking out the rooms and stuffing himself at the welcome dinner, even a cynic like Bones can agree that the cruise isn't half bad. He leans back in his chair, feeling uncomfortable after eating so much, as he watches the crew perform.

"This dinner has been going on for two hours," he says quietly. "Bringing out the dancers after putting all of us into a food coma doesn't seem like a good idea."

II. Defying Gravity/Captain's Broadcast
He was wrong. This cruise is all bad. Very bad. Bones had floated into the hallway and held on for dear life as the ship went into warp. Great. He'd had enough problems with space/time during his tenure with Starfleet. This is not what he wanted in a vacation.

When they arrive at their destination, gravity is restored and everyone sinks to the ground. Bones lands with a muffled curse and immediately takes stock of the situation. He seems to be unhurt, but he can't speak for anyone else who maybe hasn't experienced warp before.

"Ok," he announces to the hallway. "Is anyone hurt? I'm a doctor."

A doctor without his tools, but he'll do the best he can. Anything more serious than a scrape or a sprain and he's probably going to have to try to get the person to the med bay.

A man lands right next to Bones. Literally lands, he's been moving through the air with practiced ease thanks to the Jets attached to his boots. He turns towards the good doctor, face covered by a slightly ominous helmet with two wring red lenses before it retreats into the little device attached at the back of his head.

"Ey. What kind of doctor? We could use some portals."
thatsjusttypical: (ugh)

[personal profile] thatsjusttypical 2019-05-03 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
That... is kind of an ominous helmet. Bones starts a little as he looks down at the man. Thank goodness he puts it away before speaking.

"I'm a medical doctor, what do you think?" he says. "I can't make portals. I'm a doctor, not a space engineer."
momsboy: (Because I say so)

[personal profile] momsboy 2019-05-04 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It saved his life, and the life of others, many times in the past and Peter is very fond of the helmet. He knows that it makes some people twitchy because they usually like to see who they're talking with, so once his face is uncovered he gives the doctor a harmless smile.

"I see. The last doctor I talked two could do magic, so asking was worth a shot." He's going to assume it's not the case now. A pity, they could have fixed the ship quicker with someone who had the same abilities as Strange. "Do you have any equipment to work with?"
thatsjusttypical: (dammit man)

[personal profile] thatsjusttypical 2019-05-05 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Bones gives him a look. A doctor that did magic? What kind of ridiculousness was that? He doesn't have time to dwell on it. They're in a bit of a crisis here.

"Unfortunately, no. My tricorder is back on the space station, so I'm going to have to do the best I can without it." He really should have brought it with him. It was honestly foolish of him to go anywhere without it.
momsboy: (Please talk to me)

[personal profile] momsboy 2019-05-05 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter stare back, his expression relaxed. He's not telling a lie this time so there's no reason for him to be nervous. The doctor's incredulous face is no short of amusing, though, and he can't help it if the corner of his mouth upturns in his failed attempt at not smiling.

"I can't say I know what's a tricorder but maybe they have it in the infirmary. Do you want me to drop you there?"
thatsjusttypical: (default)

[personal profile] thatsjusttypical 2019-05-07 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
"What do you mean drop me there?" he asks. "A tricorder is medical device used to collect data on a patient and help make diagnoses. I already checked out the med bay earlier and I'm pretty sure they don't have any."

It's primitive compared to what he's used to. The technology on the ship seems to be somewhat equivalent to what his world had at least a hundred years ago. It's just one more thing that he finds weird about this place.
momsboy: (Can you believe this shit?)

[personal profile] momsboy 2019-05-07 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"I mean that I can fly you there, It's faster. Unless you feel like walking all the way. This is a cruise ship, it's huge." He knows it well, for the last hours he's been moving up and down trying to locate his team without no luck.

"That sounds very useful, pity that they don't have it. " Oh well, they will have to make do with whatever is available. "Are you afraid of flying?"
thatsjusttypical: (what?)

[personal profile] thatsjusttypical 2019-05-09 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Using the jets on your shoes?" Bones asks. "I think I'll walk."

He's not afraid of flying per say, but with something like that, when he could see that he was moving through the air, he was much more likely to get sick and throw up on someone. That's all they need right now.

"Are you hurt at all?"

post jump

[personal profile] winscenario 2019-05-02 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not the fact that he's not used to warp that gets him, as it happens. Jim was moving a little too fast down the hallway, trying to catch on to one of the engineers rushing across the ship, and he didn't have enough time to get a good grip on anything before the ship jumped to warp.

Actually Bones might even see him floating right past him while the jump's happening, and when the ship slows to a halt he's tossed against a wall at an unforgiving speed. He groans when he lands on the floor with a loud thud, immediately trying to sit up even though he's holding his midsection with a barely contained wince.

"Shit..."
thatsjusttypical: (dammit man)

[personal profile] thatsjusttypical 2019-05-03 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, hell. Bones is rushing over to him in a flash. "Jim. Lie down, but after that, don't move." Once the captain is flat on the floor, Bones lifts his shirt slightly in order to survey the damage to his torso. Jim looks bruised, but Bones isn't sure right off how deep the bruises go. "How the hell am I supposed to do this without a tricorder?" he mutters to himself.
winscenario: (thirty nine.)

[personal profile] winscenario 2019-05-03 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Jim groans, but the pain, however tolerable, is enough for him to not be able to fight it as he's urged to lie down on his back. He blinks heavily, frowning and gritting his teeth before he forces himself to take a slow, steadying breath.

"Just feel for anything broken," he urges Bones, grabbing his hand and encouraging him to press his fingers along the ribs. He feels sore and aching, but the pain isn't so sharp that he worries he might have any serious internal damage. Bones is the doctor, though, so hopefully he'll know better.
thatsjusttypical: (default)

[personal profile] thatsjusttypical 2019-05-05 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Like all doctors, Bones had indeed been trained in the manual way of doing things. He had gotten complacent over the years using technology like the tricorder. It was so much easier to diagnose things that way. With the absence of his tools, he was going to have to go old school.

Bones carefully touches Jim's torso, feeling for any abnormalities. "How much does that hurt?" he asks, looking up at Jim's face in case it betrays anything.
winscenario: (thirty nine.)

[personal profile] winscenario 2019-05-05 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Jim does pretty well when it comes to first aid in emergency situations, but it's better to have someone else examine him right now, especially when that someone is Bones. He'll know better than anyone if anything is wrong with him.

"One to ten-- four," he winces, the muscles tensing, but no more than that. He doesn't even try lying to Bones about it, it does hurt a bit, but the pain isn't blinding. The flesh is sore and bruised too, but nothing's hardened underneath, so there shouldn't be any internal bleeding. "How far from here is sickbay? Need you to take care of me, fast."
thatsjusttypical: (look down 3)

[personal profile] thatsjusttypical 2019-05-06 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Bones hums in his throat. He doesn't like that number. Granted, it could be a much worse number, but it's still not great.

"The good news is that I don't think you broke anything," he says, removing his hands from Jim and pulling his shirt back down. "You've probably got some internal bruising, but I'd need to get a look inside to tell."

Reaching down, Bones carefully helps Jim up, keeping an arm around him. "Two floors up. Hopefully the elevator still works."
winscenario: (hundred seventeen.)

[personal profile] winscenario 2019-05-06 01:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, he did just get tossed against a wall. Besides, it's not that bad. It's a number that still allows him to move around and do what he has to. He has absolutely no intention of just lying down or letting Bones shove some painkiller at him.

"I can handle bruising," he groans as he sits up, holding onto Bones's shoulders as he helps him to his feet. He nods, starting to walk down the hallway. "Let's go then, quickly. I need to find the engine room."
thatsjusttypical: (default)

[personal profile] thatsjusttypical 2019-05-07 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Why?" Bones asks immediately. "What are you planning to do in there?"

Probably nothing good and Jim shouldn't be poking around in there anyway. He's not the captain of this ship.

At the end of the hallway, they find the elevator and, to Bones's relief, it seems to still be working. The doors open with a ping and he and Jim step inside.

defying gravity

[personal profile] waterproofed 2019-05-02 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Percy had watched a lot of science fiction movies, so the sudden loss of gravity was kind of expected. That sort of thing happened a lot in sci-fi movies for some reason. Still didn't make the experience any fun. He perked up at the word "doctor".

"Hey!" He waved his hand. "Um, I'm not hurt or anything, but I feel a little weird. Is there such a thing as space-sea sickness?"
thatsjusttypical: (thinking)

[personal profile] thatsjusttypical 2019-05-03 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Sort of," Bones says, stopping in front of Percy. "When you go quickly from regular gravity, to anti-gravity to warp and back again, it tends to mess up your equilibrium. Just sit down and take it easy and you'll probably be fine. You think you're gonna throw up, kid?"

Bones may be a doctor, but he's not a fan of vomit. If he's going to throw up, he'd like a chance to move out of the way. Fortunately, Bones himself has been through warp so many times that it no longer makes him nauseated.
waterproofed: (Concentrate)

[personal profile] waterproofed 2019-05-03 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Nah." He felt weird, but he could get over it. "Being in the sky's not really my thing, that's all. But being on ships is, so it kind of all balances out. I think."

He wasn't sure on the rules when it was a ship in space. Percy couldn't feel it the same way he could a sailing vessel, but it was comfortable enough.
thatsjusttypical: (listening)

[personal profile] thatsjusttypical 2019-05-04 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
"I get it," he replies. "I used to hate going up and going through warp, but I'm used to it by now. Just takes some time. I should have known this place was too good to be true."

What has he gotten himself into? Trouble, probably. Bones surveys the kid in front of him. "You sail back home?"
waterproofed: (Glance)

[personal profile] waterproofed 2019-05-04 01:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Percy suspected from the beginning this was too good to be true; he isn't very thrilled about being right.

"I could. I mean, I'm really good on the water. I just don't get a chance to very often. You travel in space a lot?"
thatsjusttypical: (default)

[personal profile] thatsjusttypical 2019-05-05 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Neither is Bones, but this is usually how things turn out for him, so he's ultimately not that surprised. Jim's the one who convinced him to go on this trip anyway, so Bones can conveniently blame the captain.

"Yeah. I work in space, actually. Have you heard of Starfleet?"

It's kind of amazing to him how many people here haven't, though if what they're all saying is true, they're from different times and places anyway - where Starfleet wouldn't exist.
waterproofed: (Default)

[personal profile] waterproofed 2019-05-05 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
"No. Is it like a space navy?" Percy is a little more interested now. Navy stuff he can get behind, even if the ship is sailing the stars rather than the seas.
thatsjusttypical: (thinking)

[personal profile] thatsjusttypical 2019-05-06 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Bones is about to answer when he realizes that he probably ought to check on some of the other people in the hallway and make sure that they're not injured. "Gimme a minute. I'll be right back."

After a check of the other cruise passengers to make sure that nobody got injured during the warp, Bones makes his way back to Percy. "Sorry, had to make sure no one else was hurt," he said. "Anyway, to answer your question, it's sort of like a space navy. Generally, Starfleet's mission is peaceful and we're not trained as soldiers, but we do end up finding ourselves in scrapes more often than we'd like to."

Again, maybe Jim just attracted bad luck, but Bones still wouldn't trade him for any other captain.
